Folkfest is a three-day festival in Saskatoon that celebrates the diversity of the city. The Japanese Pavilion is organized by the SJA giving patrons the chance to experience Japanese food, performances, and culture. Food and beverages enjoyed in the past include sushi, kakigori (shaved iced), sake, imported beer, and wasabi roulette. Along with a variety of souvenirs, we offer a origami table where patrons can learn the art of folding paper and a photo booth where people can try on traditional Japanese garments. Past performances have included a karate demonstration, dancing, and taiko (Japanese drum) performances by Living Sky Taiko. Hear the lively greetings of our friendly vendors selling Japanese souvenirs and popular anime merchandise. Try on some of our garments and have your photo taken in a kimono or yukata at our photo booth.
